Privacy notice

Short version: we collect what you type into the enquiry form, we give it to Nomad Africa so they can plan your trip, and we give it to nobody else.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Africa Safari Desk, named in the footer of this site. Contact details are below.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It is configured for measurement only: Google Signals, advertising personalisation and remarketing audiences are all switched off, and IP addresses are anonymised.

That means we can see that forty people read a page about the Masai Mara last week and which site sent them. We cannot see who you are, and we do not build an advertising profile of you or sell anything to anyone.

Google sets cookies to do this. If you would rather it did not, browser-level tracking protection or Google’s own opt-out add-on will stop it, and nothing on the site will break.

We run no advertising trackers, no remarketing pixels and no third-party profiling beyond this.

The lawful basis

For handling your enquiry: taking steps at your request prior to entering into a contract, and your consent — which is what the tick box on the form records. For keeping the site working and free of spam: our legitimate interest in operating a functioning website.

Who we share it with

  • Nomad Africa, our partner travel agency in Kenya, who prepare your itinerary and quote and handle the booking. This is the point of the form. Your data is transferred to Kenya.
  • Zoho CRM, where the enquiry is stored so it is not lost in an inbox.
  • Cloudflare, who host this site and provide the spam check.
  • Our email provider, to notify us that your enquiry arrived.

We do not sell your data, we do not rent it, and we do not pass it to other operators or to a panel of agencies. One agency receives your enquiry, and it is the same one every time.

What Nomad Africa does with it

Nomad Africa trades as Purple Nomad Limited and is based in Nairobi, Kenya. Once your enquiry reaches them it is covered by their own privacy notice, which is worth two minutes of your time if you are giving them your dates and your budget: Nomad Africa’s privacy policy.

The parts of it that matter for an enquiry sent from here:

  • They use what you send to plan and price your trip, to contact you about it, and — unless you opt out — to tell you about similar trips later.
  • They may share it with service providers who process data on their behalf, with companies under common ownership, and with business partners. They may also disclose it where the law requires.
  • They keep it only as long as they need it for those purposes, or longer where the law obliges them to.
  • Your information may be processed outside the country you live in, including in Kenya.
  • On security, their own wording is that no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and that they use commercially acceptable means to protect your data.

Why we put it that way

We could have written "Nomad Africa keeps your data safe". Their own notice does not say that — it says no method is 100% secure and that they use commercially acceptable means — and it would be odd for us to make a firmer promise on their behalf than they make on their own.

So: one agency, named, with their notice linked, and their commitments described in their words rather than improved in ours.

International transfers

Your enquiry is transferred to Kenya so that Nomad Africa can act on it, and may be processed in the countries where Zoho and Cloudflare operate.

Kenya is not covered by a UK or EU adequacy decision. The transfer is made because it is necessary to take the steps you have asked us to take — your itinerary and quote can only be prepared by the people who will run the trip, and they are in Kenya. If you would rather your details were not sent there, do not use the form; email us instead and we will answer what we can without passing anything on.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become bookings are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted, because people plan safaris years ahead and often come back. Where a booking is made, records are kept for as long as the law requires for financial and contractual records.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to have it sent to someone else. You can withdraw consent at any time, and every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Exercising any of these costs nothing and we will not ask you why.

Email [email protected] and we will action it. If you are unhappy with how we respond you can complain to your national data protection authority; in Kenya, that is the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Cloudflare Turnstile may set a short-lived token in order to work out whether you are a bot; it is not used to profile or track you.
